About Us
A new look at modern art
Stagelight Box Office is an independent art venue in Brooklyn's Mercer district — five rotating exhibitions, three permanent collections and a box office that keeps every visit simple.
Our Story
Built by artists, run for visitors
We opened in 2003 in a converted printing warehouse with a single gallery and a hand-painted sign. Twenty years later the building holds five exhibition halls, a works-on-paper study room and a workshop studio — but the idea hasn't changed: serious art, zero intimidation.
Every exhibition is free to preview online before you book, every ticket is timed so the rooms never feel crowded, and every dollar after costs goes back into commissions for living artists.

What We Do
Three promises, kept daily
Living artists first
Over half of every season is commissioned work. When you buy a ticket, you fund the next studio visit.
Rooms with breathing space
Timed tickets cap each hour, so you can stand in front of a painting as long as it deserves.
Everyone is a regular
Pay-what-you-wish mornings, free under-12s and step-free access throughout the building.
