Painting after dark
Assembled by lighting designer Rafael Montecarlo, this collection explores how little light a painting needs to hold a room. Blacks, violets and midnight blues dominate, each canvas carrying a single decisive interruption of brightness.
The gallery itself is kept dimmer than the rest of the building, with focused spots on each work. Visit on a rainy afternoon for the full effect — the skylights go grey and the paintings take over.
